黄耀星、赵宇、张宇恒三人驻地作品展

On April 1, Tai Art Center unveiled "The Universe Shines for You", a residency exhibition featuring the works of three young artists: Huang Yaoxing, Zhao Yu, and Zhang Yuheng. Curated by Tai Art Center’s Artistic Director Yin Xiwen, the exhibition showcases a series of works created during their residency. The exhibition will be on display until June 4.

Curator Shirley Yin explains that the exhibition theme connects the expansive imagery in the artists’ names—“Star”, “Universe”, and “Eternity” —evoking cosmic elements often associated with the names of those born in the 1990s. These names reflect the grand, dreamlike narratives of that era. Yet, the artists’ works break free from conventional constraints, merging painting, installation, mixed media, and interactive video to redefine the messages of our time. They present a universe that is fragmented yet authentic, complex yet diverse.  

Zhao Yu’s works explore the forms of “force” at the moment of release through various materials and media. 

Metal piercing through solid objects, explosive fragments, and intense flashes of light represent a raw and unending "pathosformel"—gestures that release the most ancient and visceral human emotions, such as pain, fear, sorrow, and ecstasy.  

Zhao’s creations lean heavily on imagery and its intrinsic semantics.  

On one hand, these images are detached from their original contexts, creating a sense of dislocation and fracture, leading to a dispersed, nonlinear narrative. 

On the other hand, the shapes within the imagery form the foundation of the visual structure, breaking traditional spatial relationships through juxtaposition and deconstruction. By layering pigments, overlapping images, and introducing unusual forms to his canvases, Zhao engages in a visual exploration that reflects his observations and imaginings of reality.  

Zhang Yuheng’s works are divided into two parts:  

“Congratulations, Artists”.This project is part of an art association Zhang established in early 2023 in Shanghai. The association offers small financial incentives (5 RMB per member) and certificates to encourage anyone willing to pick up a paintbrush to continue creating.  

For this exhibition, Zhang features a celebrity congratulatory video from Xiaohongshu (@Jiang Kexin) to inspire artists to persevere in their creative endeavors.  

Zhang Yuheng's paintings unabashedly express his adolescent fascination with the concept of "inverted subject equipment" as a tangible entity, paired with his relentless interrogation of the tattoo-like symbol of "love." Through these efforts, he strives to carve a path through the symbolic labyrinth of nationalism, patriarchy, and inherent violence.

Zhang’s practice spans painting, video, performance, and installation, delving into the relationship between individuality and universality. His works navigate complex concepts and fantasies, attempting to return to the essence of art. By shifting perspectives, he crafts a sensitive and integrated approach to his ongoing creative journey.  

Huang Yaoxing presents five works created with human hair, exploring the interplay between individual and collective experiences through the lens of the body.  

In these creations, the transformative relationships between materials are examined alongside themes of concealment and reality. The exhibition includes an interactive project inviting participants to “donate a strand of hair,” fostering connections while exploring the possibilities of identity.  

Huang’s work is rooted in personal experiences, combining material language, performative installations, and video sculptures to address societal concerns and visual narratives.  

Drawing inspiration from Liu Cixin’s "The Three-Body Problem", the exhibition adopts its title, "The Universe Shines for You", as a metaphor. In the infinite void of the cosmos, meaning emerges precisely because of its rich diversity. This theme resonates with the ART FLOW Youth Artist Residency Program, emphasizing the value of unique perspectives and creative expressions

展览现场｜泰艺术中心新展“宇宙为你闪烁”开幕 ！！！

4月1日，泰艺术中心“宇宙为你闪烁”黄耀星、赵宇、张宇恒三人驻地作品展正式开幕；展览由泰艺术中心艺术总监尹希文策展，呈现3位青年艺术家在驻地期间中创作的系列作品；本次展览将持续至6月4日。

策展人尹希文表示，本次展览主题“宇宙为你闪烁”将黄耀星、赵宇、张宇恒他们名字符号中类似的宏大主题联系在了一起，“星”“宇”“恒”等太空元素是上世纪90年代出生的他们流行的名字，同样都承载了那个时代梦幻般的宏大叙事。

而他们的作品却不拘泥与共识的束缚，呈现绘画、装置、综合材料、影像互动等多种形式的相互融合，通过自由积极的探索的，重新用作品定义这个时代里迫切被传达的讯息，一个破碎但真实，丰富且多元的宇宙天地。

这次展览中，赵宇的作品试图通过不同的材料媒介表现“力”释放瞬间的形态。

穿透硬物的金属、爆破的碎片和激烈的火光所对应的是一种无意识、无止尽的“激情”（ Pathosformel）姿态，这是一种来自于人类最古老最强烈的原始情感，如疼痛、恐惧、悲亢和狂喜释放瞬间的姿态。

赵宇的作品倚重图像及其内在的语义。

一方面，这些图像脱离了原有语境，图像与图像之间出现了一种错位感、断裂感，于是，一种分散的、非线性的叙事开始出现。

另一方面，图像的形状成为画面视觉结构的重要因素，因为并置、解构手法的使用，使其打破单一的视觉与空间关系。通过对颜料的堆砌、重叠的图像、布置于画面中的异样形态而展开视觉实践与探索，同时也叙述着他对现实的观察和想象。始出现。

这次展览中，张宇恒作品划分成两个部分来呈现：

《祝贺艺术家》这一作品是艺术家张宇恒先生2023初在上海创立的艺术协会，通过给每个会员一定额度的资助（5元钱人民币）和会员证书来鼓励每一个勇于拿起画笔，敢于拿起画笔，愿意拿起画笔的各位持续的拿起画笔。

本行业协会这次展览通过借由小红书上@姜可心 Jiang Kexin的明星祝贺视频，来鼓舞各位艺术家坚持不懈的创作出更多更好的艺术作品。

张宇恒的绘画作品，则是通过毫不掩饰地表达他对于“倒转为主体的装备"这一实体的中二病式的迷恋，和不厌其烦地对于刺青式的“爱”的这一字符的重复诘问，极力地想要在民族主义，父权性，内在暴力性等符号迷局中砍出一道口子。

张宇恒的创作并不执着于媒介，他的作品涉及了绘画，影像，表演，装置等多个维度，着迷于个性（individuality）与共性（universality）之间的关系，他极力地穿越众多复杂概念和幻想而回溯到作品本身，试图调整视差，以一个融合的视角来持续制订一条敏感的逃逸线。

这次展览中，黄耀星的五件作品都是以头发为媒介创作，从身体表达的角度对个人与集体经验的扩张与盘点。

在此创作过程中，物质之间的交叉变幻本身也被放置到了与隐藏和现实交替的关系之间。其中现场设置“收藏一根头发”的项目，希望是与他人建立连接的同时，在不同身份中寻找可能。

黄耀星的创作方向主要从自身经历出发，结合材料语言、行为装置、影像雕塑等方式，关注作品的社会思考和图像语言。

华泰青年艺术家驻留计划，借助科幻小说《三体》中“宇宙为你闪烁！”作为展览的主题；正如在无始无终的宇宙，或许本是空洞寥寂，但正是这参差百态，它才有了意义。
